The duties of the Historical Preservation Commission include:
- The protection, enhancement & perpetuation of sites and districts which represent or reflect elements of the Village's cultural, social, economic, political and architectural history
- Safeguarding the Village's historic and cultural heritage
- Improving and enhancing the aesthetic character of the Village of Howard
